The Way of the Cross

Sunday 28th March to Saturday 3rd April  @ St Lawrence Churchyard, London Rd, Broughton.

Self-guided prayer walk around St Lawrence Churchyard

Ever since the first Easter followers of Jesus have wanted to remember Jesus last journey as he made his way to the Cross. This year we have created ‘Stations of the Cross’ in St Lawrence Churchyard. There will be 14 pictures, each coloured by someone in the community and illustrating a moment on Jesus journey to his death on the cross. The pictures will be attached to trees and places around the churchyard and at each ‘station’ as well as a picture there will be a short prayer and reflection.

You are invited from Palm Sunday (28th March) and throughout the week to come on your own or with your family (the pictures and reflections will be accessible) and to prayerfully walk the way of the cross.

On Good Friday there will be four opportunities to do the way together as a short service and therefore if you wish to do the ‘way of the cross’ on your own on Good Friday please come after 3.30pm.

St Lawrence 4

Crosses of 1,000 lives….

To mark Good Friday and to remember over 125,000 people who have died of COVID in the UK over the last 12 months we are inviting people to come and collect a wooden cross from Broughton Rectory garage (a donation to cover costs is welcomed). Take the cross home and decorate it then come and hang it on the tree at the entrance to

St Lawrence churchyard. There will be 125 crosses (maybe more) each cross

representing 1,000 people who have died in the UK from COVID this year.

“How can we call the day that Jesus was nailed to a cross and left to die as a good day? It’s only ‘good’

because it tells us what God is like. God is not distant, uncaring, above it all. God does not pay back violence for violence God is not like the powerful rulers of the world. God is with us. God is love. God suffers instead of hitting back. God dies when we die. God takes our place. This is what Christians see when they see a cross. No longer a sign of execution and death but a sign of hope.” Susan Durbar
